An artist, curator, and writer, Anique Jordan made this work by using research to recreate a scene at an historic Black Church in the Ward in Toronto. Known for an art practice inspired by communities, Jordan has said, “I think about the connections between what’s happening with multiple communities in Canada—Black people, Indigenous people, Chinese people, Tamil people, migrant workers, refugees—and ideas that need to be thought about. Through my work, I’d like to be sharing conversations with our connections.” Her work has been widely exhibited, and earlier this year she won the Artist Prize awarded by the Toronto Friends of the Visual Arts.
