Internationally acclaimed Kinngait (formerly Cape Dorset) artist Shuvinai Ashoona (b.1961) has radically altered expectations of what Inuit art should look like. Shuvinai Ashoona: Mapping Worlds presents works on paper produced by the innovative artist over the past two decades. These selections reveal her unique personal iconography comprising human-animal hybrid creatures, globes, and post-apocalyptic landscapes that defy traditional representations of northern ice and snow. Inspired by the changing Arctic landscape, her own vivid imagination, and popular culture, Ashoona’s captivating drawings position her at the forefront of contemporary art in Canada.
