“Revision and Resistance” Named one of the Best Art Books of 2020

The Art Canada Institute publication Revision and Resistance: mistikôsiwak (Wooden Boat People) at The Metropolitan Museum of Art has been named one of the best art books of 2020 by Galleries West magazine.

Revision and Resistance is the only book to tell the behind-the-scenes story of internationally renowned Cree artist Kent Monkman’s diptych commission for The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The paintings were officially purchased by The Met for their permanent collection earlier this year. Welcoming the Newcomers and Resurgence of the People are particularly prescient amidst our current realities of COVID-19 and discussion around the colonial histories of our museums and institutions. Monkman’s world challenges the Western art historical canon and spotlights Indigenous resilience.
